Storing A Christmas Pudding

Actually i made 6 puddings for friends of mine and for gifts and i wanted to keep them in the plastic bowls as storage until christmas.

The uncooked christmas pudding batter will keep for a short time before cooking. If unrefrigerated then we would suggest no longer than 3 hours. If the battter is refrigerated then up to one day is fine though let it stand at room temperature for about 45 minutes before steaming so that the pudding batter can come up to room temperature.

Leave the pudding in the bowl you ve cooked it in. Christmas cake generally only includes dried fruit whereas christmas pudding can include a mix of grated fresh fruit and dried fruit that has been soaked in alcohol or tea. Prick it all over. Do i need to store my christmas pudding in the fridge.

It took a little while for me to persuade the supposed dried fruit haters of the family to try my homemade ones but one bowlful and the most staunch christmas pudding opponents have been convinced of how delicious it is. I ve made a christmas pudding using the boiling in cloth method but i m now not sure whether i should store this in the pantry or the fridge until we use it on christmas day. Not storing your pudding in the fridge will also make more space for those items that need fridge storage. Is that ok or should i be taking them out and wrapping them up in paper.

No the alcohol acts slightly as a preservative but mostly the sugar will preserve the pudding as long as it is stored in a cool dark dry place. Contrary to its name plum pudding often does not contain any plums. As they will be gifts i want them to taste perfect. Reheat in the same way as you steamed your pudding for 1 2 hours when to cook.

Once the christmas pudding is cooked cool and cover with fresh parchment and foil before storing in a cool dry place. I have them stored with some fresh baking paper on.
